Tanzanian nationals in court over US$800 jewellery robbery

They were armed with crowbars and screwdrivers when they attacked the home.
Lubigisa Madata Lubigisa (27), a soccer player, is jointly charged with Ramadhani Salum Idi (32), Silly Imran Idrissa (34) and Kelvin Bernard Willium (28).
They are appearing before magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo facing charges of unlawful entry into premises in aggravated circumstances.
They were remanded in custody on Tuesday when the State opposed bail because the four are of no fixed aboard.
Prosecutor Sikhangele Mahlamvana said the accused were a danger to Zimbabweans since they moved around with screwdrivers and crowbars in broad daylight.
She said the four are holders of passport numbers AB049706, AB475958, AB499459 and AB139034.
Ms Mahlamvana said that on January 4, Virji Shah Dhansukh left his house in Belvedere under the custody of his housemaids.
At midnight, the gang acting in connivance with two accomplices only identified as Chafu Garapo and Bhakare drove a silver Toyota Vista which had no number plates to Dhansukh’s house.
The vehicle is believed to belong to Willium.
The gang, armed with crowbars and screwdrivers, broke the screen gate and entered the yard.
Willium remained in the getaway car.
Lubigisa saw one of Dhansukh’s housemaids and grabbed her by the neck, threatening to kill her if she made noise.
They gained entry into the house and stole three wristwatches, a diamond engagement ring and a red garnet eternity ring.
The other maid saw what was happening from the cottage and called the police and Multi-link reaction team.
Both teams reacted swiftly and apprehended Idrissa and Lubigisa.
Willium escaped in the gateaway car, while the other suspects jumped a security wall and ran away.
Willium drove to Holiday Inn where he fixed a new number plate KN7191BL of Democratic Republic of Congo on the car.
He hired a taxi and went back to the scene to rescue his accomplice.
He found Idi and picked him up.
Members of the public saw Willium picking up Idi and alerted the police who followed the taxi and managed to arrest the two along Samora Machel Avenue.
A search was conducted and the stolen jewelry was recovered.
