THE trial of four suspects linked to the murder of Tapiwa Makore (Junior) in Murehwa sometime in September 2020 has been set for the end of this month at the High Court in Harare.
Tafadzwa Shamba, Tapiwa Makore (Senior), Maud Hunidzarira and Thanks Makore’s trial has been set for June 27 on a continuous roll to July 1.
The quartet is being represented by lawyer Mr Munyaradzi Midzi from Titan Law.
Hunidzarira was arrested in Harare’s high density of Budiriro following a police tip-off by her neighbours, who saw her cleaning a blood-stained item after her return from Murewa.
Makore (Senior), who is elder brother to the murdered boy’s father, was arrested together with Shamba after being linked to the offence.
When Makore (senior) and Shamba appeared at Murehwa Magistrates Court, the State had it that on September 17, 2020 at around midday, Shamba lured the then seven-year-old boy from his family garden to Makore (senior)’s place.
It is alleged that they gave the boy food and later detained him in the dining room.
Alarm of the missing boy was raised and the two joined other villagers in search for him up until midnight.
Allegations are that an hour after the search was made, Makore (senior) and Shamba then took the boy to a secluded place where they cut off his head with a knife.
Thanks Makore is believed to be the mastermind of the killing for ritual purposes and he allegedly went to destroy evidence during the course of investigations into the murder.
There were allegations that he had paid Makore (senior), Shamba and Hunidzarira US$1 500 for the boy’s head and arms.
It is said that when Makore (senior) was arrested, Thanks, drove to Murehwa Police Station from Harare where he asked for keys to Makore (Senior) house.
Thanks allegedly destroyed and burnt some evidence which linked him to the offence.
He also allegedly destroyed his kitchen hut at his homestead in Murehwa by fire.
Thanks was then rearrested for obstructing the course of justice.
