Tazvivinga’s film premiered

The film was directed by Vincent Ngwenya.

Cont Mhlanga, Sihlangu Dlodlo, Sandra Ndebele, Eric Moyo, Clive Chigubu and Babongile Sikhonjwa were among the guests who came for the film premiere.

The night had a red carpet and people came in their numbers and filled the venue dressed in smart evening wear.

The guest of honour was renowned arts producer Dlodlo.

In his remarks Dlodlo said it was pleasing to note that the film was done by someone who had no formal training in film-making.

He said Tazvivinga was a young lady driven by passion for the arts and she had a spirit of achieving goals.

“She has a passion for the arts and the drive. That is the only thing that is needed to be a success in the industry. It is humbling to note that Fortune has no formal training in the arts industry or film-making but put this project together,” said Dlodlo.

The film started at 8pm and one of the shortcomings was the size of the screen.

Another glitch was when in the middle of the film the projector went off twice causing a 10-minute delay on each occasion.

Apart from that the film was a spirited effort as the plot was simple and easy to understand and follow.

Inhlanhla (fortune) is a story of two childhood friends Khanyile Mthethwa and Mthokozisi Moyo. Their friendship passes through high school life where Khanyile was two years junior to Mthokozisi.

Their friendship stands the test of high school romance and distance, and then later it develops into a romance after Mthokozisi returned from eight years in Germany. Khanyile is on the verge of losing him when she is caught between reconciling with the father of her son Kudzai and her first love who had more than once broken her heart. Khanyile decides to go back to her husband Kudzai. After she does that she discovers that he has a family in South Africa. In the end Khanyile and Mthokozisi get back to each other. The soundtrack of the film was Baphi abantwana by Kasilunatics produced by producer Banks Beats.

Mthokozisi junior was played by Ronald Sigeca and the senior part was played by Tim Da Rockstar.

Khanyile junior was played by Nosipho Nyoni and senior by Benhilda Ngwenya.

Speaking after the film premiere, Tazvivinga, the 23-year-old producer and writer of the film said the night had mixed emotions for her.

She thanked all those who came to support her in her endeavour.

“I wanted to cry, laugh, scream, and it was just mixed feelings. It took about two weeks to shoot the film and we were in different locations in the city. It was amazing to see so many people coming to support me and I am overwhelmed with emotions. I almost fainted when the projector went off, it was just a technical glitch,” said Tazvivinga.

She said places like Walkers Pub and Grill, Art Groove Café, North End and Khumalo suburbs were the locations where the film was shot.

“We were at Sauerstown bridge for the scene on the railway tracks, Walkers, Khumalo and the Art Groove Café. The other scene was Metro College next to the Art Gallery,” said Tazvivinga.

She said the budget of the film was about $10 000 and other scenes would be redone.

“We are going to change one or two scenes. I am not happy with the fashion show scene at the Thistle Room and maybe one or two of the outside scenes where we could not control the wind so much. I cannot give a date when we shall have the clean version,” said Tazvivinga.

She said she would enter the feature film in the National Arts Merit Awards (Namas) this year because she has been encouraged by people.

“Watch this space. I might be doing another film. I have been encouraged by people to enter my film in the Namas and I will do that,” said Tazvivinga.

Chigubu and Sikhonjwa left the crowd in stitches with their comical acts. The cast from the Cont Mhlanga-written play Stitsha gave a small glimpse of what it has in store for stage play enthusiasts. Eric Moyo gave a sterling performance when he sang at the end of the show.
