Teacher on four counts of sodomy granted $50 bail

Lovemore Mpofu is now facing four counts of sodomy and sexual abuse after a medical examination cleared him on other cases where 14 pupils from the school had claimed that he sexually abused them as well.

Mpofu was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to 9 December for trial.
For the State, Mr James Wirima told the court that on a date unknown to the court but between June last year and November this year, Mpofu lured two boys to his house at the primary school, which is not owned by Lutheran Church, where he allegedly sodomised them.

The Lutheran church owns the nearby secondary school.
Mr Wirima said during the same period, Mpofu again lured two other boys into his house before he allegedly caressed them by  touching their buttocks and sexual organs.

Mr Wirima said the matter then came to light after one of the boys opened up to his parents.
The boy’s parents later reported the matter to the police leading to Mpofu’s arrest.
