Teachers desert school over goblins

A total of 16 teachers reportedly deserted the school after being terrorised by goblins, leaving at least 600 pupils stranded.

The incident comes at a time when pupils are preparing for end of year examinations.

Grade Seven pupils completed writing examinations two weeks ago.

Matabeleland North provincial education director Mrs Boithatelo Mnguni said if the situation continued the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture would be left with no option but to order the closure of the school in order to protect teachers and pupils.

She said her office wrote a letter to the community giving them up to Friday to address the issue.

“The incident of goblins at Ndangababi Primary has gone out of hand resulting in all teachers leaving the school. The goblins are reportedly beating up teachers and pupils,” said Mrs Mnguni.

“The community engaged a spirit medium to conduct some cleansing but there was no change. We have since written a letter to the community and gave them up to Friday 2 November 2012 to address the issue or else the school will be closed. We have also written a letter to senior officials in the ministry informing them about the issue,” said Mrs Mnguni.

The school has 16 teachers and they left for their different homes.

Mrs Mnguni said teachers could not stand the beating hence they left.
