SHURUGWI-BASED Tebekwe Mine has won regional recognition for its mining operations, scooping a Gold award in the Top Company in Southern Region – Mining, Mining Supplies and Extraction category at the ZimCEO’s Network awards ceremony held in Bulawayo.

The award recognises the mine’s growth from a small-scale operation into an established mining enterprise employing more than 150 people, following investments in production capacity and operational expansion.
Tebekwe Mine, a subsidiary of diversified River Valley Group, was also recognised for its commitment to sustainable mining practices, resource extraction techniques and supply chain development, according to the awards organisers.
Group chairman Engineer Mncedisi Dube and mine manager Ambassador Smelly Dube received the award at the ceremony.
Speaking after receiving the accolade, Eng Dube said it reflected the company’s investment and progress over the years.
“This award is a testament to the investments and progress we have made over the years, from being just a small mine, to being a full-fledged mine, employing over 150 people and significant production levels,” he said.
Beyond production, the company says it is also investing in employee welfare and community empowerment as part of its broader approach to mining.
Amb Dube said the mine’s focus extended beyond gold extraction to supporting workers and fostering positive relationships with the surrounding community.
“As the manager, I am elated with this award. At Tebekwe, we don’t just focus on mining gold, but we approach everything in a holistic manner. For example, we empower workers and local people financially, spiritually and morally through religion,” she said.
Chief Banga of Shurugwi said the mine was bringing positive change to the community.
