CAPS UTD: Administrative uniform boob
THE KICK off delayed by 33 minutes because CAPS United brought the same colour of kit as Bulawayo Chiefs. Honestly a team which was founded nearly 50 years back which has a full time CEO who travels more than 400 kilometres with one set of uniform yet PSL rules and regulations gives each team notice before the season kicks off, which states all the league teams’ home and away uniform colours.
The team only last year was in the Caf Championship League tournament where it reached the group stages. Is this how football is developed? Is this how you can bring in sponsorship? Is this a professional club? The league game at Luveve was played with the team wearing T-shirts with no numbers and names. And spectators had paid their hard earned money only to go in and be greeted by a circus to say the least.
Watching a boozers game was much better. What I was expecting the same night after the game was for the learned CEO to go public on radio/ TV/ newspaper and apologise to the nation that includes Caps supporters, Zifa, PSL and/ Sponsors. If he doesn’t want to apologise the honourable thing to do is to resign. Last month a British MP got to Parliament late and the Honourable member resigned because he knew he had failed the people he represented in the House. This is what I call ethics, the moral principles.
Back to the Pitch
Caps’ goalkeepers’ coach was warming up his goalkeepers on the side of the goals, I was not surprised that is where they conceded both goals. The goalkeeper was not familiar with the surface of the goal area in front of him. The Caps big defenders struggled in the first 20 minutes because of the delay in the kick off because generally larger and bulkier skeletal muscles tend to reduce joint movements. Bulawayo Chiefs’ small framed strikers with a bit of maturity could have banged in four or five goals. They got eight corners and their second goal was from a corner kick.
Ladies and gentlemen now you can see that if Lloyd Chitembwe does not win the league, the blame is heaped on him and his technical staff. The administrators and supporters will not remember the two valuable points which he lost because of the uniform boob which obviously unsettled his players. But the Caps’ coach’s tactics in the second half could have won him the game. The introduction of Peter “Rio” Moyo combining with Joel Ngozo producing probing of passes forward, backwards, square, chips — it was a joy to watch. I overheard a CAPS official saying these boys are doctors of football.
It will be unfair if I don’t mention this for the benefit of our readers who did not attend the match that there were two thunder bolts — one from Ngodzo which hit upright with the goalkeeper looking for the ball everywhere up and down. And I will say to Zifa president Mr P Chiyangwa and his Vice Mr O Sibanda, if you can bring the Fifa president to Zimbabwe what can stop you from bringing in goal line technology? As for the Chiefs thunderbolt, the Caps goalkeeper pulled a world class save by tipping the ball for a corner.
I think there were wrong tactics from Bulawayo Chiefs coach in trying to defend the entire second half. Alright, I can see he wanted to catch Caps on a counter, I will say this; the counter attack only starts as soon as you win possession. Chiefs players defended deep and they were shadow marking, its not how you get counter attacks. The coach even failed to increase players in the attacking area when he had numerical advantage after a Caps defender was red carded with ten minutes to play, which was a lot of time to win the game .
