HIGH and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister, Professor Amon Murwira, has said the growth of Zimbabwe’s economy needs to be anchored on technological innovation if it is to thrive within the global setting.
He said his ministry was committed to playing its part in developing relevant technology packages that meet the needs of local businesses. He told Buisness Chronicle in an interview that Zimbabwe was lagging behind in technological terms hence the new Government has initiated a programme to address the innovation gaps in the economy.
“Zimbabwe in terms of technological development is lagging behind and this is affecting business and production in the country. In order to thrive globally, businesses need to be technologically advanced,” said Prof Murwira.
“The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development is committed to creating a knowledge-based industry through a programme launched in Zimbabwe known as the technological three step process.”
He said developing innovative hubs was critical for the economy and called on intellectuals from different professions to play their part in influencing economic processes in the country.
“The technological three-step process includes generally three processes. The first stage is knowledge generated from the higher and tertiary institutions followed by the innovation hub and lastly the industrial park,” said Prof Murwira.
“The world of information technology has become such an important aspect of our lives, and it’s highly doubtful that there will be a return to traditional methods of conducting business. So, Zimbabwe’s industries need to embrace these changes.” — @queentauruszw
