MUTARE-BASED gospel artiste Maxwell Teedzai has released a second 10-track well-choreographed album, Coat Of Many Colours. The album was recorded at Lyt-On-Studios and was produced by Lyton Ngolomi.
The 30-year-old musician, who hails from Mutare, was backed by popular gospel diva Bethen Pasinawako Ngolomi on all of the songs.
Songs on the album include Asi Tichirikurarama, Nebuchadnezzar, Vivia Pepertua, Promotion, Invitation Card, Zvakatiringana, Masango Matema, Ambush Yega Yega, Nguwo Yakaisvonaka and Vulnerable Children in which he speaks about how the society has neglected the spirit of social welfare.
‘’In this song I was advocating for child rights especially in these prevailing economic hardships where people tend to neglect social services and responsibilities, and orphans suffer, so I was trying to awaken the spirit of social responsibility in people,’’ said Teedzai.
Teedzai, a journalist by profession, produced his first album in June 2013 which he claimed did very well on the airwaves, but said lacked support from live shows.
‘’My first album, Xenophobia, did very well and it was being played on all the radio stations, I did not support it with live shows, a reason why I will be launching my latest album in Harare. I want to exploit the expanding music industry,’’ said Teedzai.
Teedzai will be launching his album on November 22 in Chitungwiza where a number of upcoming gospel musicians are expected to grace the occasion.
Extreme Gospel Choir, Justice Chiware, Bethen Pasinawako Ngolomi and Trymore Bande will be some of the musicians who will perform at the launch.
Teedzai, who is a member of Reach For Greatness Ministry International Church, said that he started singing at variety shows while doing Lower Six at Mutare Boys’ High School.
‘’I started singing at variety shows which we used to host with our sister school, Mutare Girls’ High School. By then I was in Lower Six.
“Many people loved the way I presented my songs.
“I took my singing talent to church and that was at Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe under Bishop Trevor Manhanga. I continued up until I managed to record my first album,’’ he said.
Apart from music, Teedzai is a family man. He is married to Tendai and the two have three children — Maranatha Petit, Tanya Nicole and Gilleyenedee.
