A 18-YEAR-OLD man from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo has committed suicide by hanging after he had a dispute with his family over allegedly impregnating his cousin.
The deceased, Meluleki Sibanda was found hanging from a mango tree.
Circumstances are that on 21 February 2025 at around 8 pm, the deceased’s father confronted the now deceased on allegations of impregnating his cousin.
The family resolved to settle the matter with other family members and the police. At around 10 p.m., they retired to bed.
The next day, at around 6 am, the deceased’s father woke up and when he went outside, he saw his son’s lifeless body hanging from a mango tree near the gate.
The matter was reported to the police and the body was sent to Mpilo Hospital for post-mortem.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and urged the public to use caution when dealing with critical issues.
“The police are investigating a case of sudden death by hanging which occurred in Cowdray Park suburb. We urge parents or guardians to cautiously deal with such serious issues without inducing fear in the perpetrators to avoid such incidents,” she said.
