A 19-YEAR-OLD Odzi teenager regrets the day he decided to rape his five-year-old niece after a Mutare regional magistrate slapped him with a seven-year jail term.Appearing before Mr Alex Shumba, Talent Gudza of Chegore Village pleaded not guilty to the rape charges, but was, however, found guilty.
Representing the State, Mr Malvern Musarurwa, said Gudza raped his niece when he had visited their house in Sakubva’s Chimoio Flats.
“On the day in question, Gudza went to Chimoio Flats where he found his niece playing in the kitchen with her older sister (7) and a friend. The complainant was sitting on the floor while the other two girls were sitting on a bench.
When he entered the kitchen, Gudza proceeded to shut the door, but the minor children did not suspect anything.
“He then ordered the complainant to take off all her clothes, but she refused. Gudza then pushed her to the ground and raped her once while the others were watching,” said Mr Musarurwa.
Gudza then threatened the girls that he would assault them if they revealed to anyone what had happened.
The complainant and her friends did not tell anyone about the incident until the next morning when the complainant’s mother was changing her clothes.
She then noticed blood stains on her daughter’s undergarments, something which prompted her to interrogate further until the complainant revealed that she had been raped by Gudza.
A report was made to the police leading to Gudza’s arrest.
