THE teenage mum, who is accused of selling her baby for US$180, is expected back in court today for bail considerations.
The 16-year-old (name withheld), who used the name Nobuhle Sibanda in the illegal deal, her mother Evelyn Zisengwe and Dion Tore, the buyer, appeared in court on Monday and were remanded to today.
The court heard that in January the trio connived to traffic Sibanda’s nine month baby through unlawful adoption.
The mother and daughter connived to sell Nobuhle’s nine-month baby to Dion Tore, a dealer in the underworld whom they had met on a WhatsApp group.
The court heard that in January the trio connived to traffic Sibanda’s nine-month baby through unlawful adoption.
Zisengwe allegedly told Tore that her daughter was pregnant but intended to abort the child.
Tore claimed she had a problem of persistent miscarriages and she wanted to adopt the child.
She contacted the teenager, who was pregnant at the time, and they agreed to meet on February 22.
Tore allegedly facilitated a scan of the unborn child and it was established that it was a baby girl and the pregnancy was seven months and three weeks old.
They went to Sally Mugabe Hospital where they connived with a nurse, who is not known at the moment, so that she could prematurely deliver her child.
Tore supplied her personal details to Harare Hospital Officials, purporting to be the one who was bearing the pregnancy and all the supplied details were falsified.
Sibanda delivered her child prematurely on February 25 and handed her over to Tore on March 5 at Harare Hospital.
Tore went on to create a fake death record claiming that Sibanda had given birth and her child had passed away.
Between May and August Zisengwe received a total of US$180 from Tore and the money was sent through Ecocash.
The trio was arrested after a tip-off was made to police in Murehwa.
