Teen ‘murders’ teen in bath sponge row

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl has been arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing a fellow tenant whom she accused of using her bathing sponge.

The girl who cannot be named for ethical reasons appeared before Gweru magistrate Ms Mildred Matuvi facing one count of murder last Friday in connection with the killing of a 19-year-old fellow tenant. She was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to October 19.

The girl who appeared confused in court, was advised by the magistrate to apply to the High Court for bail.

It is alleged that the murder occurred on Tuesday last week at around 5.30 PM in Mkoba Village 16 suburb.

The accused is alleged to have gone to the bathroom intending to take a bath when she discovered that her sponge was wet and could have been used.

The accused allegedly suspected that the now deceased had used the sponge and confronted her.

A heated argument ensued between the two resulting in the accused allegedly assaulting the now deceased with fists.

Another tenant intervened and stopped the fight, but the accused allegedly went to her room and took a knife which she allegedly used to stab her fellow tenant.

Her victim collapsed while bleeding profusely and she was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where she died the following day while receiving treatment.
