At just 13 years old, Shekinah Zoliswa Guhwa is already a rising star in Zimbabwe’s modelling scene. A Form 1 pupil at Hillside Teachers College (HTC) Academy, Shekinah has collected prestigious titles including Little Miss Africa Zimbabwe Queen, Teen Miss Africa Zimbabwe, and Face of Jet 2025, making waves both on and off the runway.

When Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub caught up with her at HTC Academy’s Music and Theatre Recording Studio, she credited her modelling journey to the influence of former coach Jemima Mandemwa and Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, who she described as “a leader and an educator”.

But Shekinah is not just a pretty face. She is also a young entrepreneur, crafting and selling handmade beads, bangles, key holders, and earrings.

Her love for education remains strong, with English being her favourite subject.
“English helps me communicate with people from all over the world. It’s important, especially for international modelling,” she said.

Shekinah is also deeply connected to her roots. A proud cultural ambassador, she has performed at national events like the Jikinya Dance Festival and frequently shares traditional dances and cultural content on her social media pages.
“I want to celebrate our culture and raise awareness on oral health at the same time,” she shared.

Her journey has not been easy. Raised by her single mother, Gracious Guhwa, Shekinah has faced financial hurdles, stage fright, and the challenge of balancing school with modelling. But she remains focused and grateful.
“In modelling, not everyone wins. You just have to accept it and keep moving,” she said.

Her mother, a constant source of support, recalled how Shekinah would model in her room as a child.
“This moment feels like a dream come true. She’s where she’s meant to be,” she said.

Now preparing to represent Zimbabwe on the continental stage, Shekinah has her sights set on upcoming international competitions in Malaysia and Kenya, though details are still under wraps.
Her message to fellow dreamers?
“Don’t give up. Be confident, stay focused, and trust in God.”

As she juggles modelling, school, and her growing jewellery brand, one thing is certain, Shekinah is just getting started. – Follow on X: @MbuleloMpofu
