TEENAGE STAR STARS IN ZIM WIN

IT was a debut to remember for Zimbabwe’s 15-year-old cricketer, Beloved Biza, as she shone with bat and ball in her first national team appearance in an ODI match against the United States at Harare Sports Club.

Biza produced an all-round performance to give Zimbabwe the lead in the series with a five-wicket victory.

She was the top-scorer for the LAdy Chevrons with 38 runs off 51 balls.

She had claimed three wickets.

The Lady Chevrons cruised to  victory with 15 over remaining.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe chose to field.

The Lady Chevrons found the breakthrough as early as the fourth wicket when Josephine Nkomo bowled opener Gargi Bhogle.

Nkomo also took three wickets.

The second wicket came in the 13th over when Disha Dingra was dismissed lbw off an Audrey Mazvishaya delivery.

Mazvishaya claimed her second wicket two balls later after dismissing Ella Claridge.

With the visitors under pressure, following the two quick dismissals, they found a way to hold firm and only lost their fourth wicket in the 23rd over.

The visitors were restricted to 152 runs inside 44 overs.

Set to chase a target of 153 for victory, Zimbabwe lost their first wicket in the first over.

Sharne Myers was dismissed with the second ball of the inning.

The second wicket fell four overs later following the dismissal of Modester Mupachikwa.

By the 10th over Zimbabwe had already lost three wickets.

But, it took the brilliance of Biza to stabilise the Zimbabwe innings, scoring 38 runs off 31 balls, while Nkomo scored 33 runs.

Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano chipped in with 29 runs.
