TEENAGE WOMAN, WHO WAS BATTERED BY FIVE COLLEAGUES, STARTS TRAINING AS A NURSE AIDE

Arron Nyamayaro

THE teenage woman, who was battered in a vicious four-hour gang attack which was recorded on video by five fellow teenage women, has started her training as a nurse aide at Pacific Hospital in Mabvuku.

She will spend the next three months training at the hospital.

Her story, captured in graphic detail by the video which was recorded by her assailants, drew the attention of the nation.

Mavis Made, 18, was abused for four hours and the assailants even inserted three sticks into her private parts.

Earlier reports suggested she had died during the savage attack last month.

However, her mother, Sebia Muchenjekwa, cleared that when she told H-Metro that she survived the savage attack.

Vimbai Mike,19, and her compatriots, who are all under the age of 18, were arrested on July 10, in connection with the case of aggravated indecent assault which occurred at Mupfuuri Village in Wedza. Mavis is an ardent follower of the ZCC church, told H-Metro that she is always praying that she succeeds in her training as a nurse aide, which will be the first step in changing her life.

She said she is yet to come to terms with the fact that she is now on course to train to be a nurse aide.

“I cannot believe that it’s me among the nurse aides following what I went through, at the hands of those five women, in Hwedza,” said Mavis.

“Allow me to thank Dr Mandaza of Pacific Hospital for giving me free treatment.

“I am now feeling better.

“The hospital went on to give me the opportunity to undergo training as a nurse aide and it is my wish to succeed as a way of thanking them for their offer.

“I want to thank the staff members for giving me some comfort and a warm welcome,” she said.

Pacific Hospital Sister in Charge, Nyasha Smileage Chidzingwa, told H-Metro that Mavis will undergo the training for free.

“The Hospital saw it fit to plough back into the community by developing people in our society.

“Mavis will be staying at the premises and receive training for free.

“By training her, the Hospital wants to equip and develop her, apart from treating her,” said Sister Nyasha.

Mavis was taken through the Hospital facilities by Hospital human resource manager, Anne Sakala. She was given the chance to meet some patients who are occupying the maternity wards, before she started her training.

She was taken for treatment at Pacific 24 Hour Hospital.
