Teenagers save brother from jaws of death

into the waters to extricate their brother from the jaws of death.
When other schoolchildren ran for their dear lives during the crocodile attack on 11-year-old Francis Taveshure at Angwa River in Mbire, his 13 and 15-year-old brothers waded into the waters to save their sibling.
Like a modern David squaring off with Goliath, 13-year-old Josphat Taveshure from Mashiri Village is said to have prised the reptile’s jaws just enough for elder brother Edmore to shove an iron bar into its mouth and save Francis’ life.
Although Francis’ right arm is now paralysed, the brothers certainly did enough to rescue him.
The boys are now heroes in their own and surrounding villa- ges.
The incident occurred last November when Francis, his brothers and other children were on their way home from Chatima Primary School.
At Angwa River, the boys decided to take a bath.
A crocodile attacked Francis and all the boys, except his bro-thers, took to their heels.
In an interview, the unlikely 13-year-old hero said he did what was natural for a brother to do in such circumstances.
“I saw him being pulled down and all our friends screamed as they ran away. I remained at the river with my elder brother Edmore. I got hold of the creature’s mouth and pulled the jaws open as Edmore poked the mouth and nose.
“That is when Francis escaped. We carried him home.”
Josphat added: “I love my brother. I was prepared to die with my brother.”
Their father Mr Edward Taveshure expressed great joy in the love between the brothers.
“I am proud of my sons and I hope they will continue loving each other for the rest of their lives. It is a blessing to be the father of a united and loving family.”
