TelOne to pursue partnership with NetOne

Fixed telecoms operator TelOne is set to partner NetOne in activating its mobile operating licence. The licence granted in 2011 gives the go ahead for TelOne to be the fourth mobile operator in the country after Telecel, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe and NetOne.

Telone managing director Chipo Mtasa last week said the company will pursue the partnership route as the company currently does not have the financial muscle to set up mobile operation services.

“When we got the mobile operating licence, our main aim was to address data usage but with opportunities coming up our way we might end up taking this new adventure of mobile operation.

“Going forward we are considering how we can collaborate a bit more with our mobile partners which is NetOne (Our sister company).

“We require huge capital investment to activate our mobile operating licence but our focus at the moment is to optimise on our current investments,” said Mrs Mtasa.

TelOne is also set to go into partnerships with other related companies on its broadband project to build upon its aggressive fibre project which has enabled customers to enjoy fast internet services.

She said that the company has already tabled some proposals with other telecoms companies with a view of striking possible partnerships.

“Telone is prepared and eager to work with all the players’ particularly mobile companies for us to see how best we can collaborate and increase our footprint across the country.

“We are seeking win-win relationships with companies who are offering value,” said Mrs Mtasa.
