THE Premier Soccer League have granted Border Strikers a temporary reprieve to play their remaining home games at Dulivhadzimu Stadium.
Their first home match will be against Chapungu at Dulivhadzimu on Sunday.
PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said yesterday the permission was granted up to Match Day 15, subject to another progress review.
“This comes following an inspection of the stadium conducted by PSL on June 10, 2016. PSL appreciate the progress that has been made to date, however, there are still areas that need attention. Border Strikers Football Club will use Dulivhadzimu Stadium as their home ground up to Match Day 15.
“Another inspection will be carried out in July 2016,” she said.
They have been playing at Maglas in Zvishavane. The PSL Grounds Inspection Committee had condemned the stadium, saying it fell short of the required minimum sitting capacity of 5 000 spectators. That has been improved and the stadium can host up to 4 000 sitting spectators.
Border Strikers coach, Saul Chaminuka, welcomed the latest developments.
“This decision has been long overdue and morale is very high in the team,” said Chaminuka.
“We are happy to be playing at our home ground and we are now calling on our supporters to rally behind us in their numbers. We are going to do our best to remain in the PSL”.
Border Strikers Board of Trustees vice-chairman Hosea Muleya, commended the decision taken by the PSL.
“We want to thank all those who walked with us through the journey. We will continue working with everyone, including Beitbridge Town Council, in attending to all the grey areas which need improvement,” said Muleya.
Beitbridge Town Secretary, Loud Ramakgapola, said the community was excited with the latest developments.
“Everyone is excited that we have managed to bring top-flight football to the town,” said Ramakgapola.
Border Strikers secretary, Rodlet Chigwinya, said playing at home will ensure that the team raise revenue to meet operational costs.
“We are expecting a full house at every home match. This will go a long way in addressing our financial challenges,” he said.
