A secondary schools tennis coaching workshop that was supposed to be held at Northlea High School in Bulawayo over the past two days was postponed due to a low turnout.The clinic, meant to equip teachers with requisite tennis coaching skills, was organised by Emakhandeni Secondary School. It will now be held on March 17.
Bulawayo tennis board official Adam Joelson said: “The turnout was low due to poor communication, so we have decided to move the event so that more people can know about it and attend in numbers,” said Joelson.
He said the workshop would help equip teachers with the elementary skills needed to teach the sport at their respective schools.
“It’s a first step towards equipping teachers with the requisite tennis skills. We want them to impart the same knowledge they will learn to their schools. After this we will then have a proper coaching course,” said Joelson.
Tennis in Bulawayo has traditionally been a preserve of the former Group A schools largely due to the unavailability of tennis courts and rackets at many other schools.
The workshop comes just before the start of the 2014 National Association of Secondary Heads tennis league.
