THE organisers of the Zim Community Trailblazers Awards have saluted businessman Wicknell Chivayo for celebrating and honouring the legacy of iconic musician Leonard Dembo by donating four cars, including a 2025 Toyota Fortuner, to his family.

Chivayo also donated US$50 000 in cash to Dembo’s widow Eunice.

In a statement, the man who organises the annual ZCTA show, Albert Masaka, said:

“The organisers of the Zim Community Trailblazers Awards would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sir Wicknell Chivayo for his kind gesture in supporting the widow of a Zimbabwean music legend.

“We are deeply humbled to learn that our tribute to the late Dembo, honouring his iconic song ‘Chitekekete’ as the Distinguished Song, led to an interview with H Metro that caught the attention of Mr Chivayo, inspiring him to lend a helping hand to the family.

‘This selfless act embodies the spirit of community and kindness that our trailblazers embody.

“We invite more partners to join us in supporting and amplifying the remarkable work of our trailblazers, who are dedicated to making our communities better places to live.”

Mai Dembo conducted an interview with H-Metro at the 2025 ZCTA sho, which led to a number of events, culminating in her family being rewarded by Chivayo.

In that interview, she said she felt the country had turned its back on her and her family.

On Friday, she received four cars and US$50 000 from Chivayo.

The Toyota Aquas were given to her two sons Morgan and Tendai and her daughter Fenistia.

On Friday, as the nation celebrated Youth Day, Chivayo decided to surprise the Dembo family with their gists.

“National Youth Day is about SECURING THE FUTURE for all YOUNG Zimbabweans and no young person who carries the legacy of our HEROES should be left behind.

“It is in this spirit that I also want to recognise TENDAI, MORGAN, and FENISTIA DEMBO, the children of the Late MUSIC ICON who, like many Zimbabwean youth, are working hard to uphold their father’s legacy.

“You represent the next generation of artists, leaders and entrepreneurs, and it is only fitting that on such a day which celebrates youth empowerment you also get something.

“Please go to ENTERPRISE CAR SALES and see Madzibaba Chipaga and get a TOYOTA AQUA each,” he said on Friday.
