‘The Chase’ begins

are the producers of the show which is being screened 24/7 by AfricaMagic the show.
So for the next 91 days we are going to be glued to either DStv’s channel 197 or 198 for the uninterrupted screening of the Big Brother Africa aptly titled “The Chase”.

During Sunday’s show which, was in fact the opening night, viewers were treated to all sorts of entertainment from a stellar line-up of performers. One of my favourite groups that performed was Mafikizolo and they were fantastic. The group performed the hit “Khona”, a comeback track that’s doing the rounds in pubs and clubs in Harare.

Just after that mouth-watering performance we were introduced to this year’s housemates beginning with Zimbabwe. Well, we were not shocked to see Pokello Nare. In fact, some of us we have always seen Pokello as Big Brother material despite one or two things about her.
Quite honestly, who doesn’t know Pokello?

She is the life of the party, pretty as a picture and always stands out. When she glided on stage wearing those killer heels and a short dress I was impressed. But sadly, that feeling didn’t last after she started speaking. According to her, the media made wrong assumptions about her character.

I asked myself which assumptions now? Pokello seems to have an axe to grind with the media and to say the least she started on the wrong footing. There was no need for Pokello to be dodgy about her past which most people now know. To make matters worse, she said she didn’t have any regrets about exposing herself in bed with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Desmond “Stunner” Chideme.

And perhaps we need to ask was the media there to record the couple or it was just the two of them? We hope that Pokello will remain true to herself and represent Zimbabwe well. There is no need to try and accuse the media of wrongdoing when she knows that she fouled up. Now it is the time to redeem herself and prove to all and sundry that the X-rated tape was just a mistake. Like she rightly said, the Big Brother platform provides her with the opportunity to write her own history.

We wish her well and pray she does not get evicted on Sunday. That will be a sad chapter like what happened to Telcar Mazanhi when Biggie decided to pick evictees lotto style. Pokello must also know that silence is golden, this is what kept Wendall Parson going and lasting the course. But again knowing how much Pokello wants the spotlight this might be asking too much of her.

Besides Pokello Zimbabwean viewers will also be pinning their hopes on little-known Hakeem Mandaza. Unlike Pokello, Hakeem was more relaxed and he didn’t mince his words about being a proud Zimbabwean. That is the spirit and hopefully he will stay the course. For now team Zimbabwe has high chances of doing well in the house. Oh, did you realise there is a Sulu in the house?
