THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

A BIG constituency of Harare residents is known for its unquenchable thirst for fun and entertainment.

And, this is particularly evident during the weekends, especially Friday and Saturday nights.

Last Friday was not any different.

Groups of revellers were spotted hopping between various nightspots.

Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub attended three musical shows in one night and virtually the same faces were seen at each of the venues.

Our first stop was at The Grub Restaurant and Pub, where Kurai Makore was the main act.

The show, which ran from 8pm to 11pm, marked one of his best nights.

Kurai captivated the audience with renditions of his uncle Thomas Mapfumo’s timeless compositions, along with his own hits, including the crowd favourite “Ntombi.”

“We mean business when we go on stage. I don’t mess up on stage because it means a lot for us,” said Kurai.

Following Kurai’s show, we made our way to Cresta Oasis Hotel where Suluman Chimbetu was performing before a packed house.

Many of the faces, who had graced Kurai’s show, were also in attendance at Chimbetu’s show.

After Suluman’s performance ended around midnight, we headed to Club Manake, where Alick Macheso brought the house down with his electrifying presence.

Supported by his new partner, Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele, the duo has been touring extensively throughout Zimbabwe, captivating audiences wherever they go.

Once again, many faces from the earlier shows were there.

This trend of night-hopping reflects a deep-rooted cultural appreciation for live music and social gatherings.

Taffie, a popular bouncer in showbiz circles, noted:

“We used to see this trend with club-goers, where revelers would travel in numbers from one spot to another. It was common to encounter familiar faces back then and this trend is now evident with live shows as well.”

His insight underscores the relentless pursuit of enjoyment that defines the nightlife in Harare.

As such, this vibrant nightlife of Harare is marked by the unwavering enthusiasm of its people.

Whether they are attending a concert or visiting various night clubs, Harare residents display a culture that values connection, music and shared experiences.

This relentless quest for entertainment not only showcases their love for fun but also fosters a sense of unity among those who revel together.

As long as the music plays, the spirit of Harare will continue to thrive.
