The day Magaya came to town

BY the time the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Walter Magaya arrived in a posh black Mercedes Benz at around 5.28pm, the congregants who waited patiently for the charming prophet were already in ecstasy.

The rapturous ovation from thousands of congregants — among them politicians, businesspersons and ladies of the night — who came from across Manicaland province and occupied the Mutare Meikles Park, could be heard at a distance.

Scores of foreign nationals, particularly Mozambicans were also part of the congregation that swarmed the park situated in the Central Business District.

As they prepared for Prophet Magaya’s healing, deliverance and preaching sessions, the congregants were treated to massive waist wriggling and dust-raising dances and music from the energetic PHD Ministries praise and worship team.

Thousands of congregants were seemingly in a spiritual realm after Magaya prayed and prophesied glory days ahead.

It was indeed a miracle-filled crusade as congregants went back home with testimonies. And as expected, among the congregants were the “Doubting Thomases” who came to watch Prophet Magaya in action and probably witness the “too-good-to-be-true miracles”.

Prophet Magaya’s brief appearance on the podium at around 5:30pm and clad in black Reebok slippers, black and white floral shirt saw congregants — most of them in trance — scattering on the front floor perhaps being delivered and exorcised by the man of God who spoke deliverance and healing in the name of Jesus.

However, one notable major menacing factor that seemed to have affected the crusade was the PHD security team. They were too physical. Some of them, especially local bouncers were so naïve and were so obstinate.

Believers who were delivered from different afflictions and spiritual repressions gave testimonies to The Manica Post on how they had let go some troublesome and demonic spirits, thanks to Prophet Magaya.

An asthmatic Ms Thelma Chirozva of Zimunya who was using an inhaler for more than five years claimed that she was delivered from the affliction.

“I came here with the faith that I was going to be healed. I came here at around 12 noon and I wanted to see Magaya’s face and let him pray for me. I don’t remember anything but I no longer feel the heaviness in my chest. Sometimes I could struggle to breath and I would usually walk with my inhaler. I left it home and told God that I wanted to be healed. I rebuked this ailment and when Prophet prayed for us, I felt a change,” she said.

Loice Matake from Sakubva high-density suburb also had a confession: “We are feeling his (Jesus) presence here and I am glad to tell you that after Prophet rebuked the evil spirit of failed marriages, I met my husband’s girlfriend (small house) here and she apologised for ruining my marriage. The issue had taken away all my happiness and that of my children. I was so relieved and I know I have received my deliverance,” she said while struggling to hold her tears.

A teary Jonathan Mahachi (56) from Chipinge said he sustained a fractured left hand in a car accident and the wounds were not healing.

“It was taking too long to heal. I am not employed and I was struggling to raise some funds to go to the hospital. I told God that I wanted to be healed and when Prophet prayed, I touched my hand and the pain vanished.

“On Monday, if all goes well I will go and see the doctor and get a medical report. I no longer feel the pain anymore and I am glad that I feel fine. To God be the Glory,” said Mahachi.
