JEREMIAH 8:22
Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
God was wondering why Israel was in the state in which it was, as if there was no remedy for its condition.
God was complaining about its sinful state and why it was not improving. He gave an imagery of a daughter that is not healthy and wondered why she was not recovering.
His rhetoric question was about why the State of Israel was not improving, as if there was no medical remedy and a physician that could prescribe and apply the medicine.
God was saying He has done all He could do to help Israel, by providing the medicine and the doctor, but Israel was not taking the medication.
Gilead was a place where there was a lot of balm.
There was balm in Gilead.
In Genesis 37 v 25, the children of Ishmael to whom the brothers of Joseph sold him, came from Gilead with spices and balm, among other things.
This balm was on camels. Balm was abundant in Gilead. God was saying as balm was abundant in Gilead, and so was His mercies and remedy to Israel’s malady.
It is not because God has no remedy to your sickness that you remain sick. It is not because God has no remedy for your condition that you remain in that situation.
There is balm in Gilead. There is healing in the Lord. There is, not only balm, but a physician to treat the sickness and condition.
What you need to do is to submit yourself to the physician, Jesus Christ, and take all the medicine He prescribes for you.
Why would you die when God is the healer? Why would you be helpless when God is your help?
There is no need to look for help from other gods. There is enough provision for our blessings in God.
In 2 Kings 1:2-4, King Ahaziah fell down from the balcony of his house that was in Samaria, and was sick.
He sent messengers to go to the god of Ekron to enquire if he would recover. The angel of the Lord told Elijah to go and meet the messengers of King Ahaziah, and ask them if it was because there was no God in Israel, that he would go to enquire of Baal–zebub the god of Ekron.
God was displeased that the king sought help from somewhere without consulting Him (God).
He said Ahaziah was not going to recover. There was God in Israel.
There is a Balm in Gilead, there is a physician there. Then why is the church so sickly?
It is because people refuse to believe God.
God has made a way for people to escape sickness and disasters. If we do not utilise the provided way, God will ask us if it is because there is no Balm in the Word.
There is Balm in Gilead, and there is a physician there, who can operate without a knife, who performed the first operation in the Garden of Eden, and took mother Eve from Adam’s side.
There is no need to die at the doctor’s doorstep, refusing to take his prescribed medicine.
It is not the doctor’s fault, it is not because there is no medicine there, it is because the man refuses to take the remedy.
He dies because he refuses to take the remedy that the doctor has for his disease.
There is Balm in Gilead, there is a physician there, but people refuse to take the remedy, they do not want it.
There is no need to seek other forms of amusement, when the gospel provides unspeakable joy.
There is no need to derive joy from other fleshly pleasures, when the gospel provides such a pleasure.
The Word of God is all that you need. It is your health and your sustenance for this life and the life to come.
There is Balm in Gilead. There is power in the Word. That Balm is for the healing of the soul and body.
Do not tamper with the mixture of the prescribed medicine.
Do not add or subtract from the Word. Take it as it is written. Take the prescription just the way it is written, and God is obligated to His Word.
He is bound to His Word.
In every situation, there is a way of escape. There is a provided way of escape. It may be a spiritual, financial or any other problem, there is Balm for that in Gilead. There is a remedy.
Jesus, the great Physician is there. May He administer the balm for your ailment. Ma He pour balm on your wound. Your health will recover.
