POET and performer Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo, 20, is set to stun audiences with her soul-baring words at Alliance Francaise de Bulawayo on April 25. Her show, Shades of Blue, will rip open the harsh truths of mental health—depression, anxiety, and the battle to love yourself.
“The audience can expect an intense and heartfelt experience, a journey through the good, the bad, and the ugly of mental health,” she said. “I want to take them on a path of self-discovery, to help them see that they are not alone in their struggles.”
For Sisa, poetry isn’t just art—it’s survival. “Performing never gets easier, no matter how many times you do it,” she confessed. “But the challenge is something I embrace. It’s a thrill that never gets old, and it’s what keeps me going.”
Her explosive words began at 14, when writing became her lifeline. “I started writing poetry as a way to express feelings I couldn’t talk about. It was my escape, my sanctuary. Poetry allowed me to process my emotions and make sense of the world around me.”
Now a rising star, Sisa slams at competitions and dominates stages—her talent earning her the Outstanding Poet award at last year’s Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards (Praca). “Winning was surreal,” she said. “It proved my words hit hard. That’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.”
Don’t miss the fire she brings on April 25.
