THE GREAT ESCAPE

KAITANO Tembo masterminded a stunning Sekhukhune United victory on Tuesday night, with a 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates, to escape the gallows.

Reports had indicated that the Zimbabwean coach would be fired, if his team lost the game, after they had won just one of their opening eight matches.

But, against Pirates, they turned on the style at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane for a deserved victory.

Goals from Elias Mokwena and Vusumzi Mncube powered them to victory against a 10-man Pirates.

“I would like to thank and (dedicate) this game to the chairman, Mr Simon Malatji, the CEO, Mr Jonas Malatji, the football managers as well as the technical team and players,” he said after the match.

“I think the support, the patience and belief they’ve shown me kept me going.

“They could see what I was trying to do and they supported that, so I think it was just a matter of time for us to start getting good results.

“But, this is only the beginning, to be honest.”

He added:

“I thought we wanted it more, the players really worked very hard for it, we created chances the same way we have been creating (in previous games) and I think this time around we were a little bit more lethal.

“When they went one man down, in the second half, we were also patient and we kept on doing the right things, we didn’t really panic and we didn’t start forcing things.

“We knew they would open up and that’s what happened.”

It was Kaitano’s second win in nine games at Sekhukhune.

His next assignment is against his former club SuperSport United. – Sports Reporter/SABC Sport
