THE GREEN PARTY

CAPS United are having a GREEN PARTY.

Malawian import Chawanangwa Kaonga came off the bench to settle a difficult tie in difficult conditions at Gibbo yesterday.

The striker came to the end of a crisp pass from Brett Amidu, with just over 20 minutes to play, to score the priceless goal.

The victory ensured the Green Machine maintained their 100 percent start to the season with a third win in three matches.

They now lead the standings with nine points, two ahead of Ngezi Platinum and Hardrock who also won their respective matches yesterday.

Yet CAPS United had to squeeze their sweat out for this win as they faced a stubborn Triangle side yet to pick a point this season on a muddy and waterlogged pitch.

The Harare giants were forced to improvise rather than play their normal game in these conditions and that made their lives harder.

But this is a totally different class of CAPS United. Coach Takesure Chiragwi has installed a unique software in his players and even in diversity, they were always going to grind this result.

After a tough but promising first half, Chiragwi introduced Kaonga as he sought to add more teeth upfront.

The Malawian international, so technically gifted, never disappointed.

He first got two chances, difficult ones actually, but almost got something out of them.

Then the big moment arrived.

Brett Amidu is growing in confidence with each passing game and that was showing throughout the afternoon.

His biggest moment saw him picking the ball in a crowded area.

Then he showed he was smart.

A perfect pass to Kaonga and the Flames man couldn’t miss from that position.

“I am happy for myself for scoring my first goal for CAPS United,” he said.

“But I am especially happy for helping my team win this league match.

“The match was very difficult match on a very heavy pitch but we won. The players showed up pretty well.”

Chiragwi hailed his charges.

“It was a difficult game,” said Chiragwi.

“We couldn’t play our normal match today (yesterday).

“But I am happy the players showed up.”

CAPS United have already switched their focus to their next match against Hardrock at Rufaro on Saturday.
