The joke is on People First

Kuda Bwititi at Great Zimbabwe

President Mugabe yesterday had a laugh at the expense of Zimbabwe People First Party, saying the nation can expect to see the formation soon fragmenting into “People Second, People Third”.

He also had a chuckle at how the formation, led by Dr JoiceMujuru, tried to steal Zanu-PF’s name and identity.

At Great Zimbabwe Monument in Masvingo yesterday, where the 21st February Movement was holding 92nd birthday celebrations for President Mugabe, the Zimbabwean leader said, “Vamwe vakabva wokwedu, vakamboedza kuona kuti vangatore zita redu, vakarinzvengesa pai, vakati toda kuzonzi People First,” he said.

“Aaah, uchanzwa, People First, kuzouya People Second, People Third, People Fourth — regera zvinoramba zvakaita mutorodo zvakadaro semugwagwa. Zanu PF will remain Zanu PF, very strong, no change.

“Kana usiri mutungamiri akanangana nezvido zvevanhu, zvinangwa zvevanhu, ndozvino kukwezva. Warasa gwara, zvinangwa zvevanhu zvido zvevanhu, ukushandira vanhu here.

“Tikaramba takadaro tichiona hunhu hwevanhu, simba rawapihwa zvino nehondo yeChimurenga. Kuti ivhu raarenyu ,maminerals edu, runako urwu, rwaa rwedu.”

President Mugabe also poked fun at MDC-T, saying of the Morgan Tsvangirai-led party: “Kana vakada kuti ndisu anani, hapana, vanosvetuka vachibva ku MDC-T, hameno kuti vanozviti MDC-T here kana MD-Chii, vakuzvipa mamwe mazita.”

President Mugabe thanked the majority for rallying behind him, saying he was humbled by the support he continues to receive.

“Ndinotenda ndinotenda nekurumbidza kwamandiita imi wee. Hapana mutungamiri angamboita mbiri ari Karikoga, aiwa. Mbiri inobva mukunge wakatsigirwa nemhuri yako,” he said.

The President said Zanu-PF’s crushing victory in the 2013 elections had shattered the opposition, leaving the revolutionary party’s opponents in a state of despair.

“Vanhu vakatiratidza 2013 kuti vachiri kwedu, zvakasimba-simba, zvimwe zviparty zvakagurunaka, hazvichambokwanisa kana kuisa zvigamba.Mabaudhi anotyoka kana kudii, hapana.”
