“Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of the grand coalition. But I repeat myself.” The temptation to corrupt the above quote by Mark Twain for good measure was too enticing to resist given that the epitome of opposition idiocy is in on the rise.
Surely, for how long will we hear of the ranting of an opposition grand coalition? For how long will an axis of evil masquerading as a coalition to topple Zanu-PF continue to be given prominence which they do not deserve?
A gutter opposition mouthpiece reported that “opposition parties leaders (sic) who include Biti, Lovemore Madhuku (National Constitutional Assembly), Emilia Mukaratirwa (Zapu vice-president) and Elton Mangoma (Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe) met to come up with a strategy on how to face Zanu PF in the 2018 elections. All opposition parties agree that their common enemy is Mugabe and Zanu PF so they should unite and work together ahead of the 2018 polls”.
We cannot help but agree with Albert Einstein when he said: “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”
Failed politicians such as Biti and Mangoma, who both fell out of MDC-T and then fell out between themselves in clownish fashion, now want to sit at the same dinner table again.
You do not need a horoscope to tell you that anything with traces of Biti or Mangoma is bound to fail.
Think of it: people are trumpeting a so-called coalition that includes the likes of Lovemore Madhuku and little-known Emilia Mukaratirwa.
Add to that Welshman Ncube’s warped proto-Mthwakazi ideology and what you get is anything but “grand”.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was onto something in the poem “The Masque of Pandora” when he said “whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad”.
Here is a coalition of four power-drunk failures who are giving each other titles and defining who is their enemy and who is allowed to join their ranks.
Even though this is a coalition of failures, they will not invite Morgan Tsvangirai to the table, though they will sent emissaries to the disgraced Joice Mujuru.
We are being told that this is a grand coalition and yet it is already fractured from the start!
I suppose it is a case of having no permanent friends and no permanent enemies, but perhaps permanent interests.
And if there are no permanent enemies it would explain why Biti and Mangoma are in the same leaking boat but it would not explain why they feel Tsvangirai is a permanent enemy; or better still why President Mugabe and Zanu-PF are the common permanent enemy.
What we begin to see is that there is no real interest in working towards Zimbabwe’s development but rather to simply grab power and feather nests.
Nevertheless, who cares if there is a coalition of political losers?
Of course the main beneficiary will be Zanu-PF because Tsvangirai will not agree to join with Biti and Mangoma and Mujuru will not agree to join with Tsvangirai so in the end why prepare for elections when a grand coalition will save the day for Zanu-PF just like Simba Makoni and his Mavambo did that other year?
There are issues that do not need a lot of emotion when trying to address them.
For instance, the issue at hand requires a clear and open mind.
We get no elucidation from the illogical conclusions that are drawn in the private media about the formation of a fly-by-night “grand”coalition; or the speculation of the launch of a pseudo-party called People First; or the foolhardy reasoning of Obert Gutu who has no clue as to the difference between Dubai in the Middle East, and the Far East — places he continues to guess President Mugabe was enjoying his well-deserved annual vacation.
The bungling and bickering of the opposition in Zimbabwe will give Zanu-PF at least another five years in office in 2018.
Come to think of it, there may be no need to campaign for that election because the opposition is making it clear to all and sundry that they are not an option when it comes to leadership of our great country.
The ranks of the opposition leadership remain populated by people who are decidedly far from clever and who lend credence to Einstein’s assertion on the infinity of human stupidity.
Their madness shall destroy them.
Dubulaizitha!
