SIBUSISO Thebe bagged the first gold medal at the Matabeleland North NASH athletics championships at Somvubu Secondary School in Bubi on Wednesday.
Thebe took over the lead in the third lap and led till finish.
He clocked 34 minutes 43 seconds in the morning’s first medal event.
Thebe runs for Tsholotsho District.
With the win he has booked himself a ticket to the Inter-Provincial Championships.
The competition started with the 100m heats run in a very soft track caused by the overnight rains.
Matabeleland North is hoping for a better showing at the national championships.
Harare will play host to the national finals later this month.
