TWO men, who are suspected of luring women with fake job promises on a Whatsapp group and then raping them, were lured into a trap before being caught by members of the public.

Macdonald Manzungu and Tedious Nyashanu, both 20, were nabbed on Saturday evening.

They were handed over to the police and are expected in court when investigations are complete.

Police expect a number of victims to come through and press charges against the two individuals.

They are in custody at Chikwanha Police Station in Chitungwiza.

The two men are both from Mayambara in Seke.

They were caught after a trap was set for them on Saturday evening.

A youth leader from Charigwati Village in Seke mobilised other youths in Seke, who include Kudakwashe Machipisa, Itai Mahachi and Michael Shonhiwa, to trap the men suspected of being involved in a number of raping incidents in the area.

They managed to get contacts the father of a Waterfalls woman who had been raped in one of these incidents.

They told him of their plan to trap the perpetrators.

They used a friend of the victim as bait.

She posted a message in the same Whatsapp group claiming she was looking for a job as a house maid.

The suspects assured her they would get an employer who would pay her US$60 more than the $100 she was getting at her current workplace.

And, on Saturday evening, arrangements were made for the woman to travel to Seke where she would meet the ‘employment agents’, near Chikwanha Shopping Centre.

What the fake employment agents did not know was that three groups had been set up to pursue the them.

They started walking with their latest victim towards Nyatsime College.

Along the way, the pursuing groups pounced on them near the Manhombo area.

Police said:

“The ZRP warns the public against responding to job postings and dating requests on social media. This follows an incident in which a 20-year old woman was sexually abused after being lured to a secluded place at Charigwati Village Seke on 06/12/24.

“The woman had responded to a fake job posting for a bar sales position.”
