A CHITUNGWIZA man has appeared in court facing charges of stealing phones and cash from Deputy Minister of Youth, Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Kudakwashe Mupamhanga and Member of Parliament, Kudakwashe Nyasha Chikwinya.
Tinashe Hombarume (36) appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzai on two counts of theft.
The prosecution, led by Mr Takudzwa Jambawu, alleged that on October 3, 2025, around 5pm, MP Chikwinya parked her vehicle at Ashbrittle Shopping Centre in Harare and went into a shop.
Hombarume and his accomplices, who are still at large, allegedly unlocked the vehicle using unknown means.
They stole two cellphones and US$420.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department later recovered the cellphones in Hombarume’s possession.
In a separate incident on October 7, 2025, Deputy Minister Mupamhanga parked his vehicle in Harare.
When he returned about 10 minutes later, he found his iPad, a Huawei Pro 7 cellphone, a Samsung Z Fold cellphone, and a wallet containing a passport, national ID, and bank cards missing.
Acting on information from an informer, detectives from CID TFC Harare recovered the stolen iPad and two cellphones from Hombarume.
