A DARING gang of thieves has sent shockwaves through Mashonaland Central after breaking into 10 schools in a series of night raids, getting away with US$1 800.

Police confirmed that the unlawful entry cases happened between 29 September and 2 October, with suspects targeting administration offices under the cover of darkness.
“Police in Mushumbi are investigating a spate of unlawful entry into premises and theft cases which occurred during the night between 29/09/25 and 02/10/25 where unknown suspects gained entry into administration offices at 10 schools, where they stole cash amounting to US$1 800,” the Zimbabwe Republic Police said in a statement.

The break-ins have left teachers and communities shaken, with fears that the marauding gang may still be prowling the area. The thefts come as schools continue to struggle with limited resources, making the loss of cash even more devastating.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits to come forward. “Anyone with information to report at the nearest Police Station,” appealed the ZRP.

The daring raids have sparked fresh concerns about the security of rural schools, with parents and community leaders now calling for tighter safety measures to protect pupils and staff.

Police investigations are ongoing.
