He appeared before magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo who slapped him with one year eight months in prison.
Four months of the jail term were set aside for five years on condition that Shongedza does not commit an offence involving dishonesty.
Mr Murendo suspended further six months on condition that Shongedza restitutes Alice Zinyakatira US$1 240 through the clerk of court on or before February 15.
The remaining 10 months were suspended on condition that Shongedza performs 350 hours of community service at Makumbe Hospital starting on Monday next week.
