ZIMBABWE captain Brendan Taylor believes Zimbabwe can pick a lot of lessons from South Africa in their one-off Test cricket tie that gets underway at Harare Sports Club this morning.“I am a firm believer that there is no greater opportunity for players than to go out and learn from some of the best players in the world and that can only do some good, even off the pitch,” said Taylor.
“We are graced with an opportunity to feed off and compete against the best team in the world.”
His coach Steve Mangongo agreed; “I certainly agree with my captain. You learn by discussion, getting into conversation and interacting with the people who have done that, seen that, by socialising with them, getting into (discussions with) the guys who are the top players for one to be a better player, one needs to engage them.
“We believe we have perfect opportunity for our players to interact and feed off the best in the world,” said Mangongo.
Mangongo feels at the age of 29, Matabeleland Tuskers spinner John Nyumbu is ripe to earn a national team cap having been consistent over the last three years in the local league.
Nyumbu was yesterday named as one of the 12 players expected to take on South Africa in the one-off Test that gets underway at Harare Sports Club this morning.
“In the last domestic programme he (Nyumbu) was the top spinner, nice wicket taker, has been consistent over the last three years where he has been in the top three and last season he was really outstanding.
“These are the results of sheer hard work and he thoroughly deserves his opportunity and we wish him well in his time in the sun,” said Mangongo.
