THOUSANDS of ZANU PF supporters from across Mashonaland Central province converged in Shamva Mashonaland Central province, on Saturday to celebrate the enactment of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3 (CAA3), with party leaders saying the development will provide continuity in governance and accelerate the implementation of development programmes.

The rally, attended by senior Government and party officials, drew supporters from all districts in the province and was marked by calls for elected representatives to intensify service delivery and remain accountable to the people.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda was among senior officials who attended the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Mashonaland Central ZANU PF provincial chairperson Cde Kazembe Kazembe, who is also Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, said the successful passage of the constitutional amendment would allow ongoing development projects to be completed without disruption.

“The Constitutional Amendment that the people called for has now been successfully passed. This means the next harmonised elections will be held in 2030, allowing the President, Members of Parliament and councillors to continue implementing development projects without interruption,” he said.

Cde Kazembe said the province’s priority remained improving people’s livelihoods through accelerated development and enhanced food security.

“Our focus is the development of Mashonaland Central and ensuring our communities achieve food security.

“We want to realise Vision 2030 and ensure that the resources found in our province benefit local communities,” he said.

Cde Kazembe said the province would continue pursuing programmes aimed at improving the welfare of communities while ensuring local people derive maximum benefit from available resources.

While welcoming the constitutional changes, Cde Kazembe cautioned legislators and councillors against complacency, saying the extension of their tenure should be accompanied by greater commitment to serving their constituencies.

“Go back and work for the people. The extension is not an excuse for sleeping on duty,” he said.

“If people complain that you have become a missing Member of Parliament or councillor, the party has the power to recall you. Work for the people, otherwise it will be game over.”

The rally also served as a platform for party leaders to reaffirm their commitment to the attainment of Vision 2030 and the continued implementation of development projects under the Second Republic.

Supporters who attended the event expressed optimism that policy continuity would help accelerate infrastructure development, improve service delivery and advance economic growth in communities across the province.

Party leaders said unity, hard work and a continued focus on development would be critical in ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are felt by communities throughout Mashonaland Central and the country at large.

The celebrations come as Government continues implementing programmes aimed at transforming livelihoods, enhancing food security and driving inclusive development in line with the national vision of attaining upper middle-income economy status by 2030.
