More than 3 000 people thronged the Master of the High Court’s office over the past week to regularise and finalise estates of their deceased relatives.
All those who have registered their late relatives’ estates were given end of April as the deadline to action the estates.
Since the Master of the High Court launched an exercise Vhara File/Close File, last week, the response has been overwhelming.
In an interview yesterday, Master of the High Court Mr Eldard Mutasa said his office was happy because people were complying with the law.
“They are making use of the window period, which we are likely to extend,” said Mr Mutasa.
“Delays in finalising of estates creates complications on the inheritance matrix.”
These complications, Mr Mutasa said, normally arose when potential beneficiaries die before receiving their dues owing to delays in winding up the estates.
The High Court premises have become a hive of activity as people from all walks of life are coming to submit requirements that enable the finalisation of the estates.
The requirements include estates accounts, proof of administration fees, list of debtors and creditors and payment of estate duties among others.
