National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, which he said occurred around 8 AM yesterday, shortly after the company opened its doors for business.
“The three suspects walked into the complex and made their way to the bureau de change situated on the first floor of CIPF building. They pretended to be customers before unleashing a short reign of terror, where they attacked the guard and disarmed him of his firearm. They went on to demand the door remote that led to the safes, before also accessing the CCTV and erasing all the footage. Thereafter, they made off with their loot,” said Comm Nyathi.
He said the police suspect this could have been an inside job, as the robbers meticulously carried out the crime within a short time and had knowledge of operations.
