THEY navigated through the Covid-19 turbulence, whose powerful winds temporarily blew their wedding plane off course but the raw strength of nature could not stop the power of LOVE for Nyasha Mushekwi and Arsema Ghebrehiwot.
At the weekend, against the beautiful background of Cape Town’s Table Mountain, Mushekwi and his stunning Swedish sweetheart finally celebrated their wedding at a glitzy affair in South Africa.
It comes almost four years to the day when Mushekwi proposed to Arsema, who is originally from Eritrea, during their holiday in the Seychelles in January 2019.
This was supposed to be quickly followed by a wedding ceremony but the couple’s plans were scuppered by the outbreak of Covid-19 and they put everything on hold.
But real love triumphs over all barriers and delegates, from around the world, began converging in the Mother City last week for the THREE-DAY wedding extravaganza at some of the Western Cape’s most beautiful places.
“Finally, Covid-19 has calmed down and we can now celebrate our love with you, as we had planned,” the couple said in their wedding invitations.
The wedding started on Friday at the iconic St George’s Cathedral, in Cape Town, where the dress code was formal.
It is known as the “People’s Cathedral” for its role in the fight against apartheid and St George’s Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Anglican Diocese of Cape Town.
It is the oldest cathedral in Southern Africa and is also referred to as the Cathedral Church of St George the Martyr. The remains of Archbishop Emeritus Tutu are interred in front of the high altar.
It is celebrated as one of the most historical and beautiful buildings in Cape Town.
If Mushekwi was looking for a place where his marriage would receive divine protection, he clearly picked one of the best spots for that.
At 6pm, on the same day, a welcome cocktail party was held at Ocular Zeitz MOCCA and the dress code was a cocktail chic.
The following day, the party continued and at 4pm, a wedding reception was held at Cavalli Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, which was a black-tie event.
About an hour after the reception started, Stellenbosch erupted in joy as the town celebrated its football team’s first major silverware when they beat TS Galaxy on penalties in the Carling Cup final in Durban.
It appears the football gods knew Stellenbosch was hosting an iconic footballer on the same day.
On Sunday, the final day of the wedding celebrations, the party moved to La Paris Estate in Franschhoek, one of the oldest towns in South Africa, where a traditional ceremony was held with the dress code being African attire.
