WHENEVER a person picks up something it is always associated with luck, but such was not the case for three Umguza men as they found themselves in murky waters for picking up a gun in a bushy area.
Grifix Moyo (21), Vusumuzi Mabhena (32) and a juvenile aged 16 were arrested after they were found in possession of a gun which they allege was found in a bushy area.
Unfortunately, the three men instead of reporting the matter to the police, decided to keep it for reasons best known to them.
Little did they know they were inviting trouble for themselves as police got a tip-off and pounced on them resulting in the discovery of the rifle.
They were arrested on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon.
The three appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Abednico Ndebele and pleaded not guilty to the charge citing that it was not theirs as they had picked it up in the bush.
However, their excuse did not let them off the hook as they were reminded that they were supposed to swiftly report the matter to the police.
The court heard that on 24 March at around 2pm police proceeded to Plot number 46 in Klipstring farm, Umguza after receiving a tip-off.
They then discovered a brown 303 SRG rifle serial number 2338 which was loaded with one round of ammunition resulting in the arrest of the three men.
The magistrate remanded them in custody to 8 April. .
