Three more people succumb to Covid-19

Three more people have succumbed to Covid-19 while 79 new cases were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours.

The Covid-19 death toll now stands at 206 while 6 638 people have contracted the virus in Zimbabwe since the outbreak of the pandemic with the majority of the cases from local transmissions.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the deaths were reported in Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and Manicaland.

Mashonaland West, the Ministry reported, recorded 101 cases in the last seven days.

The new positive cases were reported in Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland West, Midlands and Matabeleland South.

The Ministry said the seven-day rolling average for new cases went up to 55 from 51 in the last 24 hours.

“As of 2 September 2020, Zimbabwe has now recorded 6 638, 5 250 recoveries and 206 deaths. Seventy-nine new cases and three deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Fifty-nine are local cases and twenty are returnees from South Africa,” said the Ministry.

The Ministry added that nine recoveries were reported with the national recovery rate at 79 percent.

The Ministry said 939 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests adding that positivity rate was 8,4percent.

Active cases went up to 1182 from 1 115 the previous day.

Bulawayo now has a total of 1 286 confirmed cases, 37 deaths with 1 148 recoveries while Matabeleland North has a total of 114 cases, three deaths and 91 recoveries.

Matabeleland South has a total of 699 cases, seven deaths and 501 recoveries while Midlands has a total of 548 cases, eight deaths and 490 recoveries.
