THE April winner of the Southern Region Division One Soccer League’s Nokel Security Top Goal Scorer of the Month accolade will receive his prize after all the teams reach the four game mark.
Three players, Morgan Mungombe of Makomo and Talen Vision’s duo of Ossie Miniru and Grey Kufandada are vying for the first gong of the season with three goals each. Their teams have already played four games and will share the $200 prize in the event that players from teams yet to reach four games fail to score more goals.
Musa Mandaza, Zifa Southern Region chairman said: “We are grateful to the sponsor Nokel Security for deciding to continue with this partnership. We shall be honouring the April top scorer once all teams have reached the four-game mark.”
Nokel Security director Kenneth Mhlophe said his company is committed to supporting the development of sport and is hopeful that the award will motivate strikers in the First Division.
“We understand that football has become technical but at the same time fans want to see goals and it is our hope that through our Nokel Security Top Goal Scorer of the Month award, strikers will be more clinical and give us goals. As a company we will continue being supportive to sports development initiatives which benefit the region, ourselves as sponsors and above all motivated athletes,” Mhlophe said.
CIWU and NRZ Leopards will play their third game of the season today with the former taking on ZPC Hwange at Ingagula while the latter are at home to Casmyn.
Six sides, ZRP Bulawayo, Indlovu Iyanyathela, Moto Moto, Mainline, Casmyn and Bosso 90 play their fourth games this weekend.
ZRP Bulawayo will play host to former Premiership side Hwange this afternoon, with Indlovu Iyanyathela clashing with second placed Talen Vision at Gifford High School while army side Moto Moto will be at home against newboys Toronto who are still searching for their first win of the season.
