Gwanda-based arts group Talent Innovation Mentorship Exercise (TIME) Project has honoured Arts doyen Simon Mambazo Phiri with a portrait done by Zie the Artist as a token of appreciation and a belated 50th birthday present to Mambazo.

The portrait is a manner of celebrating Mambazo’s incredible journey and contributions to the creative arts sector.
According to Adrian “Drivo” Musa who is the TIME projects director, Mambazo is worth to be celebrated and be given his flowers while he can smell them, as his dedication, passion, and excellence have inspired countless individuals, with his work continuing to leave an indelible mark on the Zimbabwean arts and culture.
“We are honoured to present Mambazo with a portrait drawn by Zie the Artist, a token of our appreciation for his guest appearance in one of our online sessions. This gift symbolises our respect for his artistry and commitment to promoting Zimbabwean stories and culture.
“We are grateful for his tireless efforts in mentoring emerging artistes and contributing to the development of the arts scene in Bulawayo and beyond. Mambazo’s legacy is a testament to the power of creativity and dedication,” said Musa.
Meanwhile, through the 50 Dates in the Theatre, an initiative meant to celebrate Mambazo’s 50th birthday, the movement will be returning tonight at the Bulawayo Theatre with a 1996 classic play – Zwelethu (Our land).
The play was originally written by Mike Sabiko and it is being re-imagined by Sabela Music Projects.
The production will be performed at the Bulawayo Theatre from 7pm. It will run from 16 to 20 September.
Zwelethu is a ground-breaking production by Siyaya Arts and NASA Theatre. It premiered on Independence Day (April 18), in 1996.
