TNF to hold talks between Government, businesses

THE task force on economic affairs under the Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF) will hold its first meeting in nearly two years in Mutare tomorrow, as parties resume engagements to iron out differences between business and Government.

Minister of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare Paul Mavima confirmed in an interview that after the Mutare meeting, the TNF would convene in the next two weeks to discuss the issues that taskforce would bring before the main TNF wing.

The TNF is a social dialogue platform that brings together the Government, business, and labour to negotiate key socioeconomic matters.

It was formed in 1998, initially as a voluntary forum but was legislated through the Tripartite Negotiating Forum Act of 2019.

Employers Federation of Zimbabwe, which represents the business said experts have been drawn from the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries, the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, Bankers Association Zimbabwe, Chamber of Mines and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers to participate during Tuesday’s meeting.

“We need to give dialogue and consensus building around major economic policy interventions a chance,” said Demos Mbauya, the president of EMCOZ.

“As business we are committed to play our part.”

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union said it was ready for the meeting and was looking forward to all the parties “find each other” in trying to solve the current socio-economic challenges.
