Zim Dancehall man-of-the moment, Tocky Vibes never shies away from controversy. Only a few weeks ago, the Rugare-based lyricist got people talking when he hit the stage in a bright coloured butler outfit during the infamous Kalado show at Old Hararians Sports Club. Pictures of the “Mhai” hitmaker in his “weird” rob made rounds on social media and jokes were made about how he had acquired inspiration from the great spirit medium Mbuya Nehanda.
It seems Tocky, as he is passionately known by his legion of fans, had the last laugh at the Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival held at Glamis Arena over the weekend.
Jaws dropped, again, as fans converged at the festival clad in the attire that resembled the one worn by Mbuya Nehanda on the day she was hanged by colonialists in 1898.
A long black rob (normally associated with spirits), complete with leg rattles in his bare feet. The singer acknowledged his Mbuya Nehanda look soon after changing into a slim fit suit saying;
“Takumbosiya zva Mbuya Nehanda”.
While some have criticised Tocky Vibes for trying too hard without success) others have commended him for being purely artistic.
What is clear however is how he makes an effort in being noticed as well as producing good music.
Meanwhile, the Sumer beer festival ended on a high note with local acts stealing the show. Besides Tocky Vibes, the likes of Soul Jah Love, Winky D, Legendary Sound, Judgment Yard and Shinsoman took turns to thrill the multitudes that attended.
The festival started late afternoon on Saturday and carried on until the early hours of Sunday.
