Tongai Moyo mentee comes of age

KADOMA-BASED sungura musician, Solo Moyo, believes his forthcoming album will help him consolidate his position as one of the emerging names in the genre.

The Kutinya Express frontman is set to launch his eighth album titled ZvaMwari Hazvipikiswe at Tanza Centre in Chitungwiza this Friday.

“I have been in the game for a while now and I am optimistic that this album will again leave a mark.

“It feels good that the response to my previous projects has been amazing, and the idea is to raise the bar with this album,” he said.

Moyo added:

“It’s my album launch of course, but I can’t perform the whole night alone.

“I need support from fellow musicians, and that’s why you are seeing that line-up on the poster.

“This has always been the case with the local music industry, we support each other when we launch albums.

“So, in this case, I have engaged musicians from different genres, upcoming and established, to bring variety to the fans who are going to throng Tanza Centre come Friday.

“The title of the album is very clear, ZvaMwari Hazvipikiswe, I’m very confident that this is going to be a success.”

Having been groomed by the late sungura legend, Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, Solo has engaged the late legend’s son, Obert, to be part of the launch.

“I have engaged the late Tongai Moyo’s sons to be part of the project because their father groomed me. He contributed immensely to be where I am today, and I am forever grateful.”
