Tongogara extend lead

ARMY side Tongogara extended their lead at the top of the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) table to three points after edging Silo United 1-0 at Mbizo Stadium at the weekend.

Delight Dhimbo’s solitary strike earned Tongogara all the points.

Tongogara took advantage of a slip up by Whawha, who were held to a goalless draw by police outfit Black Eagles to increase their lead from a single point to three points.

The army side is now on 55 points from the 25 games played while Whawha are on 52 points.

Tongogara coach Kelvin Maphosa said it is still too early to talk about the championship and what he was concerned with is to ensure his side maintains consistency.

“My plea to our executive, technical department, players and supporters is to be united and support each other in our objective to gain promotion,” said Maphosa.

“We now want to maintain consistency so that we don’t worry about what other clubs are doing. At the moment the destiny is in our hands and this calls for the club’s stakeholders to work in unison.”

Meanwhile, third placed Nichrut also maintained the heat on the pacesetters by coming from behind to beat FC Platinum Under-19 2-1.

Goals by Shepherd Sithole in the 86th minute and Jacob Muzokomba in stoppage time handed the young platinum miners their second home defeat.

Nichrut coach John Nyikadzino paid tribute to his charges for their fighting spirit and gave credit to the young platinum miners for being an organised side.
