Top body-builders to flex muscles

TOP body-building athletes will tomorrow battle it out in this year’s edition of the Harare Classic at 7Arts Theatre.

The contest, which has a first prize cheque of US$3 000 for the senior men’s overall winner, is bank-rolled by their all-weather partners Musabvunda apparels, whose director Kudzai Pasipanodya is confident the musclemania show-piece will be a success.

Tomorrow’s show will be a contest of seasoned campaigners and rising names, who will be looking forward to leaving a mark on the podium.

Defending champion Gedion “Gidza” Teguru, who lifted the title in 2021 and 2024 and is the reigning national champion headlines the line-up of contestants.

Teguru is upbeat about his chances of reclaiming the title.

“The competition is going to be very tough this time. Top guys are coming, and it is going to be hard.

“It will be good if I manage to defend my title and bag my third Classic victory.

“I was working hard and I look forward to the contest,” Teguru said.

Teguru is expected to battle it out with long-time rival Edward “Gearbox” Mutero, who won the title in 2022 and Noah “Hulk” Dzvokora, a four-time runner-up.

South Africa-based Nigel “Spartan” Maphosa, the 2019 Mr Zimbabwe champion is also expected to bring some international clout to the field.

Also eyeing the podium are Malcolm Dzuke, a former World Fitness Federation champion, and Paul Bako, who has won the Zimbabwe Nationals, Manicaland Classic and three consecutive Marume Classic contests.
