Professional Tennis Registry to be involved in junior development and coaching programmes in the United States.
The PTR is the largest global organisation of tennis teachers and coaches with more than 14 000 members in 122 countries certified in a standardised, fundamentally sound teaching or coaching method. It has the greatest percentage of minority and female members of any such organisation.
Mashonganyika, who is based in the United States, recently joined the PTR “elite club” after he attended the Junior Development and Performance Coaching courses in the United States and passed both courses.
During this programme, a comprehensive four-part examination was used to determine each member’s rating. The written and on-court examination was administered by the PTR on teaching and playing skills to determine a certification rating.
Mashonganyika received the professional rating in junior development. Speaking from his base yesterday, Mashonganyika, a product of Albert Nhamoyebonde’s Mufakose Tennis Coaching Agency in Harare, said he was now going to enroll for the Master of Tennis Programme.
In this programme, he can either be involved in adult and junior development or High Performance coaching.
“Also these new courses were introduced this year in January by the PTR which is the largest international organisation of tennis teachers and coaches in the world. I am also planning to pursue my studies in Professional Tennis Management and only the sky is the limit for me,” he said.
